Why not take the time to learn a new sport during your holidays in the Azores: surfing! With the experienced instructors of Black Sand Box, you are assured to go to the best surfing spots around the island and more precisely Ponta Delgada. Our goal? Make sure that you learn while having fun! In small groups of 6 surfers maximum, of similar age and level, you will make progress in no time. If you are already an experienced surfer, you are of course welcome too: our instructors will gladly share their passion for surfing with you and help you improve your technique. Meeting & Preparation
We meet directly at the beach. We will send you the exact location and time the day before your lesson to ensure the best surfing experience, as it all depends on the weather conditions and tides. Naturally, we will inform you in time, so you can make the necessary arrangements. We can also offer you a pick-up service for a surcharge. All these details will be arranged once your booking is complete. In total, you should plan approximately 3 hours for your surfing lesson.
Start time
The start time depends on the tides to ensure the best conditions, so please plan some extra time on the day of your surf lesson. The exact start times are available the day before the course. We will inform you in time after you have completed the booking.
Course Content
Each course lasts 1.5h and consists of:
- Meeting with your instructor and receiving a briefing on the conditions, the beach hazards, etc.
- The right warm-up
- Introduction to surfing and practice on the beach
- Practice in the sea

Do I need to be a good swimmer, and what's the minimum age?
You need to know how to swim to participate. There is no minimum age, but parents are asked to stay on the beach while their children are in the water.
Why can the time of my lesson change, and how big is the group?
The start time depends on the tides and weather to ensure the best conditions. The exact time is confirmed the day before the lesson. Lessons take place in small groups of a maximum of 6 surfers.
Is equipment included, and what do I need to bring?
A surfboard and wetsuit are included in the price. You should bring your own swimwear, a towel, and toiletries like shampoo and shower gel.

How long does the whole experience last?
